Latest update: pub is apparently open again on certain evenings only (eg weekend gig nights). Better than total closure, but doesn't exactly bode well. Anyone know any more details of what exactly is going on here?

Has just closed unexpectedly. No idea what's going on, but this vast Victorian gin palace is a neglected gem - it must be saved!

Drank the odd pint here in the early 70s. Always enjoyed my nights there (some of which I remember) aand always a nice place to bring a lady for a drink

Never been in here, but any place these days that has live bands must be a positive given the financial/paperwork involved by the landlord.

Good Luck, London needs more live venues.

Needs a referb and the management will rip off any band apart from established acts thatw ant to play there(how any band thats starting out can bring down 300 people is beyond me).

The venue is big and the staff freindly enough. Kareoke is decent.

Been going here for ages and this is the best pub for live bands like,

Expose
East of Java
Fab Feedback band

These bands pack the place of like minded friendly people who like to drink and dance. So go on a night they play an see how good it is for yourself.
An Excellent night out on a Saturday.

The Cauli a brilliant pub, live bands are a must to see my favorate is East of Java who used to play the first Sat in every month. sad to say not been down there for a while after it closed for a while lots of rumours going that it was to close all together. think a lot of regulars stopped waiting for it to open and the bands started playing at other pubs and the loyal followers went to watch them heard that it is a indian restaruant as well? MUST go back there loved it and have missed it.

I think this is a quality pub. The drinks are reasonable and the bands that they have on are great!

Keep it coming!

It's a sad story of this pub ... used to be the best pub there is, full stop. 10 years ago it had everything, great live music, good pool tables and great players, hundreds of fit chicks and reasonable price beer. Then it went down hill, and no one know why, the people just stopped coming. I blame the hellhole that is North St Romford ...

But we can build it back up again, lets all get down there and show our support. It IS the best live band place still ...

I am a vocalist and sang here twice with Punchmonkey - one of the best stages and a great atmos. It was busy when we played there but not packed, however it was a great night on both occasions.

If you play in a band, its worth getting a cd to the owners. They do have very good bands here, we were surprised to get there to be honest - we were ok but not that polished but the crowd and bar staff said we put on a great show.

Must go back there soon to see a band - if only there were more top venues like this still going.

The Cauliflower was THE place to play in Essex, the biggest pub venue, excellent acoustics, great bar, friendly mixed crowd and all within a very intriguing building. The Cauliflower towers over its surroundings as a former Gin Palace frequented by the elite. Much of the original glass and woodwork remain offering a great sense of history although today it stands prominent with over 20 years of live entertainment. After a closure during 2005 the Cauliflower is back with live entertainment for various tastes, all it requires are for the punters to return as this pub used to get so busy it was hard to get to the toilets which in a venue of this size is quite an accolade.
I recently saw Undercover play here who produced a great mixed set with a spirit that oozed fun but I've also seen the likes of Expose, Fabulous Feedback Band, East of Java, Bad Manners, Hedgehog and various tribute bands help make this the best place to see bands in Essex.

Insane - it reminds me of The Shining. Almost certainly haunted - wouldn't look out of place on a barren clifftop.
Huge, empty place with glaring red carpets. Worth a visit just to sit there in bewilderment.

Even more mindbending when a Madness tribute band is pogo-ing away in the background.

I really like this big old pub. Great atmosphere, when there are good bands on. It gets a bit sweaty but that adds to the night. Great session.

Seems to be open and having live bands again - HOORAY!

Loved playing in this pub. Great atmosphere. Great Soul band. Then it turned rock, declined and closed. I hope somebody opens it again soon.

This pub is now CLOSED due to the brewrey selling it off. A real shame because it had the best live bands in essex there. Some great times were had there by many. Another great pub bites the dust!!

Great pub!
Went there on a Friday night to see a live band. I did not realise how big the place was and there was a great atmopshere. Good if you're a metal fan/goth as there seemed to be a few in there but plenty of "normal" people as well. They stay open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays which is good. Would definitely go again!
