I thought the Glasshouse was one of the worst Wetherspoons I've been in for some time. I'm surprised that in a city of so many real ale establishments that this place was packed late yesterday afternoon. Hanlons Goodwill Festival Ale, Coach House Christmas Ale, St Peter's The Merry Elf, Sharps Doom Bar & Greene King Abbot were the 5 ales. No ciders were on. There are a number of different drinking areas downstairs, with an upstairs area too. We didn't stay too long.

This could be an excellent JDW pub if it were not for the seemingly mandatory minimum wait time to be served. Even late on, lots of staff - but all wandering round doing other things while customers are waiting with nobody serving. If they sorted this out it would be a great pub!

Overall doesn't seem a bad Spoons, team leader busily chatted for ages with someone she seemed to know leaving me stood waiting to be served, but the beer was good and a decent pub inside.

Called in for a quick pint and breakfast last Thursday - the food was as good as I have had in any Wetherspoon's, and the beer (Woodforde's Once Bittern) was £2.09 and very nice. The staff were very friendly and pleasant, but then again the place was relatively quiet. One or two lone Ruddles drinkers were beginning to assemble by 9.45 a.m. but by the time I left the only disturbance had been caused by a rather loud and posh-sounding young woman with 2 small kids who were allowed to run around squawking and take over the area of the pub where I was sitting. Otherwise, everything fine.

Clean and civilised, decent ale at 1.99 a pint. As far as Wetherspoon pubs go, this is one of the better ones, and certainly far better than the busy one by the riverside. Watched part of the European GP on a big screen with the sound turned down.

Yes, some foul-mouthed pissed elderly-chav-type locals in evidence but the beer was fine (pint of Loddon for 1.99) and the food (not sampled) looked good. Since we never intended going here in the first place, this is a reasonable Wetherspoons and seems a perfectly good place to stop off for a pint as long as you are not offended by foul language.

I've been in this JDW pub twice in the last week, once for breakfast and the service was much better than your average JDW pub. Reasonable choice of ale but that might be because of JDW's beer festival. From my experience this past week a pretty good Wetherspoons.

Bright and spotless inside. Have visited twice, first time nice meal and no problems but the last time there was some implausible reason why they couldn't feed us.

.....wretched bloody pub which seriously dampened an otherwise decent pub crawl with good friends last weekend, I thought the service abysmal and those working the bar utterly clueless. And the ale choice certainly didn't justify the 20 minute wait. AVOID!

If you had your arm amputated and like a stick of rock it was Burberry right through or if you are a grade one Billy -No-Mates or if your job seekers doesnt stretch to you drinking anywhere decent then this is the place for you. If, however, you like pub with marginally more atmosphere than the moon, then give it a miss.

Normally not a Wetherspoons fan, but Sunday lunch here went down well; combined witha real ale festival. Toad's Croak, Straw Dog and Wolf in Sheep's clothing all enjoyed, together with a decent shoulder of lamb roast. The Pie in the Pie and Pint offer was more pastry than filling, but there was nothing left on the plates, so can't have been that bad.

I must say, I don't recognise the Glasshouse from the many jaundiced reviews posted here. Having said that, I wouldn't consider visiting the pub at its busiest times anyway. It stands to reason that there will be lengthy queues of customers waiting to be served at such times. I do feel some people love to come over all superior and elitist when the name Wetherspoons is mentioned. If you don't like them; why visit them? Leave more room at the bar for people like me, who appreciate a well kept pint of real ale at a bargain price.

Not too bad for a city-centre Wetherspoons, only really let down by bar staff who seem to think that talking to each other is more important than a) serving customers or, having done that, b) clearing up.

okay so its rather crowded at weekends
the annoying barmaids who were in dipers when you hit 18 seem determined to id everyone, but apart from that there is a huge selection of world lagers, its been in the good beer guide, its fairly stylish and comfy. worth a visit.

Wetherspoons, well no need for a review, said it all really. Not the worst I've been in and not the best. The usual chave central, watered down with a few students at the weekend. Cheap drinks, you would expect that and the food is reasonable value but I wouldn't go there for more than one drink and then only to 'quietly' take the piss out of the pathetic collection of pissed up loosers that masquarade as real people. Croc of shit but just what you would expect.

service time could be alot quicker, staff seem to change on a weekly basis and always seem to be streesed over a que of about 3 ppl!! used to go in there alot-now have stopped due to the smell been to strong to stand- would reccomend the ribs of beef or mischief.

This place gets too busy for it's own good - and usually with young, loud drinkers or those after anything to eat/drink on a night out as long as it's cheap.
Although set over two floors, the only bar is downstairs and it never seems to have enough staff on. Be prepared to wait and barge to be served.
Not too bad for a drink in the summer when the beer garden and balconies are in action, but again once it gets busy it's time to leave! The drinks might be cheap, but when you can only buy one an hour coz it takes so long to get served it's really not an option.

sorry to hear these bad reviews about the Glasshouse.I use this pub once a week and most times found it a pleasant experience-good choice of real ales ,good mix of drinkers, friendly bar staff but this idyllic scene is in the early afternoon. You cant keep blaming Wetherspoons for societys problems.
