My Sunday morning took me to this Wetherspoons hostelry in Workington, seemingly the only Workington establishment to make any of the last 13 editions of the Good Beer Guide! I remember trying a pub in the town around 10 years ago. But I don't recall which one. The town seems slightly improved on what it was then. But that's not saying much. The Henry Bessemer is an old cinema and was fairly busy with locals tucking into breakfasts yesterday. The ale selection was Hawkshead Red, Windermere Pale & Dry Stone Stout, Ennerdale Darkest, Yates Golden, Sharps Doom Bar, Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best. The cider was Old Rosie. I sampled the Darkest, which ironically was not the darkest ale you'll ever see. It was more of a dark ruby colour. Probably the best Workington has to offer.

Pub tick number 1 while on a day trip to Workington & Cockermouth from Keswick.

This large ex Cinema has been sympathetically restored and turned into a nice looking 'spoons, we came in just after noon on a Tuesday and it was half full but the pub is huge.

10 pumps with a couple of real ciders and 7 ales. Only 2 were locales with the rest being the usual Wetherspoon national brands. My pint of Yates Golden @ 3.9% was good.

2 barman that were quick and attentive, all the usual fruit machines but no televisions or music.

A very decent 'spoons and a good start to the day.

nice renovation job, bit big and acoustically unsound due to the high ceilings, however the selection of bbers is excellent, the staff are friendly (something not often found with workington folk full-stop(before you say anything i grew up there too)) and the assistant manager lass is gorgeous, always a bonus... food is standard McWetherspoons fare, nothing great, nothing bad...

Without doubt the best choice of world beers and real ales.Food is very basic not my cup of tea but edible. Not a bad wine list either.Prices are good andhonest. The whole pub is in need of a revamp, looking a bit tired now and feels like a canteen.Very friendly staff and always helpful.Always good for a few cheap pints.

renovated from the old cinema, the henry is a nice bar if a little bland with the monotonous seating arrangements, it makes you feel like they'd rather you'd be eating than drinking. otherwise nice staff and good prices make it an excellent starter pub for the workington circuit.
